She spends a lot of her time listening to spoken word. The passion the speakers use to deliver their speeches and the creativity a poet uses to express a moment, send a message, create an emotion that would not have been fathomed without their intricate web of words, this intrigues her. And all of this, she trans- ferred into the performance that won her the title speaker of the year. And as you sat there only one conscious thought lingered in your brain“how does she do it?”. Here, we have an exclusive look into what it takes to become the next speaker of the year... Ethan: What inspired you to participate in the speaker of the year compe- tition? Answer: During my time in TIS, I realized that I had a skill from pubic speaking. In fact, in Grade 9 I decided to par- ticipate in the speaker of the year competition because of my love for debating.
