Oh Yes! It was an experience of a life time for our students this week during the IDU days. Over the next two weeks, the learning stories will be shared with the school community.
This week’s article provides an overview of each interdisciplinary unit (IDU) across the years of the programme.
MYP 2 – Physical and health education & Design
This interdisciplinary unit helped Grade 7 students understand stress in age-appropriate ways and explore how physical movement, music, and creative artmaking can support emotional regulation and mental wellbeing. By combining PHE, Visual Arts, and Music, students learned practical strategies for managing stress while developing multiple artistic languages to express feelings safely and constructively.
MYP 3 – Language acquisition (French & Spanish) & Arts (Visual arts and Music)
The unit demonstrates how visual aesthetics and persuasive language work synthetically to address cyberbullying in high schools. The beauty of this IDU is the opportunities it provides for students to communicate in foreign languages, French and Spanish.
MYP 4 – Mathematics & Sciences
The unit allowed students to use real tourism data to identify patterns, explain causes and consequences, and make informed predictions and recommendations.
MYP 5 – Language and literature & Individuals and societies
This interdisciplinary unit brought together Language and literature and Science to explore the global context of Scientific and Technical Innovation. Anchored in the key concept of Connections and guided by the related concepts of Purpose and Function, the unit invited students to examine how technological development connects scientific knowledge, communication practices, and societal impact.
The IDU helped students to uncover the interdisciplinary nature of innovation, gaining insight into the real-world implications of how science is framed and understood. By building this understanding in learners, the unit empowered them to be critical thinkers, responsible innovators, and effective communicators in an increasingly tech-driven world.
